Debra Powell | BIO < back to artists

"I've been working with clay since I landed my very first job with 'Hereford Fine China' in the 1980's.  I studied art and design & was involved with two artist co-operative galleries - 'Where the Wild Things Are' and 'Left Makers Collective'.

For more than a decade I got 'lost in the fantastical wilds' of acadaemia and emerged with desgrees in NZ History and a doctorate in crime history & homicide studies !.

Through it all has been a fascination with narrative and the significance of stories in the way we experience and interpret the things around us.

My recent clay work continues to explorte this narrative theme - exploring the stories we employ to give meaning to our strange and fabulous lives .. "
