Richard Hansen | BIO < back to artists

The Artist's Room Richard Hansen grew up in Hari Hari, South Westland.  He was influenced in his art by his artistic grandmother and the powerful landscapes of the area.

After a busy period a family and work commitments he embarked on his life long passion and completed a diploma of art and creativity in 2002.

Richard is very focused in his art and is inspired by images with strong light and colour which he uses to express the moods of the environment around him, whether they are landscape, cityscape or still life.

He uses distortion to create movement and energy so that the viewer can experience the scene from their own imaginative viewpoint.

Now residing in South Canterbury, Richard has been successful in exhibiting and has won awards including:

1991 - Trust Bank Art Award, South Canterbury Arts Society
2002 - 1st Place Oil Painting Alpine Energy Art Awards
2003 - 1st  Place Oil Painting Alpine Energy Art Awards
2004 - 1st  Place Oil Painting Alpine Energy Art Awards
2004 - Westpac Art Award South Canterbury Art Society

2005 - 1st  place Oil Painting & 1st place best overall painting - Alpine Energy Art Awards.
2005 - Timaru Public Art Gallery purchases a Richard Hansen work for its' permanent collection.
