Biography

Andrea Cooper has a Diploma in Art & Design Level 7 from the Waiariki Institute of Technology (2005), she also holds a post-graduate Certificate in Visual Arts, Otago Polytechnic (2019).

Over the years, Cooper’s studio practice has involved, and evolved through a wide variety of image making strategies and techniques.  She has recently developed a process to create works on ceramics that doesn’t require firing. This has given her work a unique look and has given her love of drawing and imagination free rein.

Printmaking has also become a major influence. By etching on recycled copper, Cooper embraces the marks that are already there, allowing the material to retain its own voice. In the same way, by printing onto Pianola that has had a previous life, the work is given an added dimension that allows it to speak on several levels simultaneously.

Coopers work is held in a number of private art collections, including The Arts Trust House, and she has been involved in a wide variety of artistic endeavours and collaborations including:
