Biography

Clay has been sticking to Debra (quite literally) since landing her very first job with Hereford Fine China in the 1980's.  She went on to study art & design and was later involved with artist co-operative ventures - "Where the Wild Things Are" and "Left makers Collective".

For a while she was lost in the fantastical wilds of academia & emerged with degrees in NZ history & a doctorate in crime history & homicide studies.  Through it all has been a deep fascination with narrative & the significance of stories in the way we experience & make sense of the things around us.

Recent clay work, made under the name "Little Betty"continues to mine this narrative thread.  Betty's voice is deliberately a small and quiet one.  Her stories are of the gentle and curious variety, told with an introspective sense of humour.

All vessels are made withwhite stoneware clay and decorated with mid-fired glazes. They have been constructed using slab built and wheel-thrown components involving a variety of techniques.
