Biography

Graduating with an English & Art History degree from the University of Otago, Michelle Chalklin-Sinclair spent several years in sales & marketing roles prior to taking up the helm as GM at Cargills Hotel in Dunedin.

In 2004, she followed her dream – and with the support & guidance of her business partners, she became co-owner & Managing Director of The Artist’s Room Fine Art Gallery & The Framers Room Studio in Dowling Street.

Following on from her own personal interest in both print-making and photography, several years ago - Michelle attended night classes at Otago Polytechnic School of Fine Art –learning and producing her own screen-prints & etchings, however that love for photography took over and she is now an emerging photographer in her own right, selling very limited edition work from The Artist’s Room Gallery, Dunedin.

She is also co-founder of the incredibly successful DUNEDIN, OTAGO & the University of Otago FONEBOOK – which saw all three publications on the bestsellers list – with the DUNEDIN FONEBOOK as the highest selling self-published book in NZ in the year it was published.

Her latest project has been 'The Colours of Otepoti / Dunedin' which features a 'colour chart' produced from her own photographs of various Dunedin landmarks - and all things associated with City - such as the iconic cheese roll, Dunedin tartan, Larnach Castle & the iconic 'Dunedin sound' ... this is available as a non-editioned A2 print.
