Biography
Originally from Dunedin, Ricky Drew is a contemporary artist working primarily in acrylics. His paintings are known for their clarity and precision, often leaning towards photorealism.
With his distinctive style he works across a diverse range of themes including still life, streetscapes and landscapes. His still life paintings elevate familiar objects,fresh fruit, pantry staples and beloved Kiwiana subjects such as Edmonds Baking Powder into striking compositions that celebrate the beauty of everyday, familiar objects.
In his streetscapes, Ricky explores urban environments through evocative alleyways, architecture and quiet city scenes whilst his landscapes pay homage to New Zealand ‘s natural beauty depicting recognisable locations such as the Lindis Pass with depth and clarity.
Ricky has had solo exhibitions in Dunedin and Melbourne as well as participated in many group exhibitions and fund-raising exhibitions. He has received the prestigious Luna Curry award at an Otago Art Society exhibition and received a small works award in Dunedin's "Edinburgh Art awards".
With a growing reputation, Ricky’s work continues to connect with audiences through his subjects and familiarity with a distinctive New Zealand perspective.
