Teri Parat
Biography
Teri Parat is a NZ contemporary artist based in Auckland. She now works from her Mt Eden garden studio having moved back to the city after six years residing on Waiheke Island.
Whilst there she fulfilled a dream of working as a full time artist following many decades working in the fashion industry. Her paintings reflect and showcase her love, passion and appreciation of good design.
Teri is known for her floral composistions often displayed in large glass vasese or vvintage pots - as well as her intricate portraiture which feature wide eyed women with mesmerising middle distance gazes echoing the past whilst holding a resolute viewpoint.
The subtle technique in which Teri portrays the fragility of these works and their transient beauty has been honed over a career as a portrait and floral artist.
Teri paints in oils on fine cotton and often Belgian linen canvases, using a very fine brush technique.
She draws influence from a multitude of inspirations, amongst them fashion history and photography and classic portraiture from a bygone era - Teri has exhibited widely throughout New Zealand over the past thirty two years, both with solo and group exhibitions.
