Biography

Unna Pumjan is a Thai-born artist currently basedin Aotearoa New Zealand. She moved from Thailand to New Zealand at the age offifteen, and this shift between places continues to shape how she thinks aboutidentity, memory, and belonging. She recently graduated from art school in2026, where she developed a sculptural practice focused on storytelling throughobjects and figures.

Working mainly with clay, dolls, and installation,Pumjan creates small, intimate worlds that feel personal and slightlydreamlike. Her work often comes from memory, childhood feelings, andimagination, using handmade figures to hold emotional experiences that aredifficult to put into words. Rather than presenting fixed narratives, hersculptures sit in-between playful but heavy, familiar but strange.

Pumjan’spractice is grounded in making as a way of thinking. Through building theseworlds by hand, she explores how we carry the past, how we protect innerfeelings, and how imagination can become a place to exist inside."
